REMEMBRANCES PLANNED TO MARK TRAGIC
OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS SCHOOL FIRE

A number of observances of the 50th anniversary of the Our Lady of the Angels School fire that occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on December 1, 1958, are planned. Ninety-two children and three Sisters of Charity died in the tragedy.

Friends of OLA
On Sunday, November 30, the Friends of OLA will host “A Day of Remembrance” and a 50th anniversary memorial Mass at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 1080 West Roosevelt Road. Most Rev. John R. Manz, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago will be the celebrant.

Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Chicago-area Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVMs) are planning a prayerful commemoration of the 50th Anniversary on Saturday, November 29, at Mt. Carmel and Queen of Heaven cemeteries.

Catholic Elementary and High Schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago
All Catholic elementary and high schools are invited to join in prayer at 2:30 p.m. for the victims of the fire and their families, for firefighters and for their own schools.

City of Chicago
The Chicago City Council officially adopted a resolution calling upon all Chicago schools, public and private, to observe a moment of silence on December 1, 2008, in solemn recognition of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Our Lady of the Angels School fire. In addition, the measure calls for flags to be lowered to half-staff at all municipal buildings.

Twelve Men
Ordained as Deacons


Cardinal George ordained 12 men to the Order of Deacon November 1 during ceremonies at the University of St. Mary of the Lake / Mundelein Seminary. This is the last step for these seminarians in their preparation for priesthood. For the next year they will serve as deacons in parishes throughout the Archdiocese.

Chicago, IL (November 10, 2008) – The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) works to help strengthen families and communities throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. This important work is made possible by donations from Catholic parishioners who are being asked to be as generous as possible this Thanksgiving season with their financial gifts to the annual CCHD collection the weekend of November 22 and 23. In 2007, ninety-five percent of Archdiocesan parishes participated in the CCHD collection.

HOLY NAME CATHEDRAL TO REOPEN FOR DAILY MASS
BEGINNING MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17

Chicago, IL (November 7, 2008) – Holy Name Cathedral will again be open for daily Masses beginning Monday, November 17. The Cathedral will be open for private prayer or reflection each day from approximately thirty minutes prior to the first scheduled Mass at 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.
