ANNOUNCEMENT

On Tuesday, July 21, the National Catholic Partnership on Disability, in collaboration with the Chicago Archdiocesan Commission on Mental Illness, is hosting a workshop on mental illness. Its purpose is to raise awareness and to propose strategies whereby the Catholic Church can be a more loving and supportive presence for those whose lives are affected by mental disorders.  It is hoped that an outgrowth of this initiative will be a strengthened effort of Catholic outreach.

The location will be St. John of the Cross Parish Center, 5050 Wolf Rd., Western Springs, Illinois.  The day will begin promptly at 9:00 am and conclude at 4:00 pm.  Light continental breakfast, lunch, refreshment breaks, and materials will be provided – including NCPD’s newly released 30-minute DVD on this topic.  There is a $10 fee to offset these expenses.

The Archdiocese of Chicago Vocations Office helps men discern a call to the priesthood through retreats, visits to the seminary and discernment opportunities. As well, the Vocation Office works with men to determine their eligibility to apply to the seminary for the diocesan priesthood in Chicago. Finally, the Vocations Office actively works to create a culture supportive of vocations through promotion, education, and parish based efforts to raise awareness.

Called & Gifted the Archdiocesan Lay Ministry Program of the University of St. Mary of the Lake is a two-year Certificate Program that offers you the opportunity you seek. It consists of weekly classes

(at regional sites) and monthly days of spiritual and ministerial formation. Over 1700 volunteer ministers like yourself have found the confidence and competence they needed through this program.
